How does Lustre identify a piece?
You photograph the piece, or pick an existing image from your library. The photo travels over an encrypted connection to our backend, which passes it to Google Gemini for analysis. Seconds later you get a name and category, an era, a confidence figure, the metal, the setting and any hallmark, each gemstone with its estimated carat, colour, clarity and cut, and an estimated value range with a full report behind it.
Is Lustre a certified appraisal?
No. Identifications and value estimates are AI-generated estimates for informational and entertainment purposes only. Lustre is not a certified gemological laboratory or appraisal service, and its results are not a certified appraisal, valuation, or authentication, nor are they financial, investment, insurance, or resale advice. Never buy, sell, insure, declare, or transact based solely on the app's output; obtain a qualified independent appraisal first. A photograph cannot verify metal purity, gemstone treatments, synthetic versus natural stones, or internal characteristics. Do not use results for insurance claims, customs or tax declarations, estate valuation, commercial trading decisions, or authentication in a sale listing. See our Terms of Service for the full limitations.
How accurate is it?
Accuracy depends on framing, lighting, reflections, and how much of the piece is visible. Every result carries a confidence percentage, and value is shown as a range rather than a single number, because a photograph can only support a range. Treat a result as a well-informed starting point and have anything that matters examined in person by a credentialed gemologist.
Does Lustre store my photos?
No. Photos are sent for analysis and processed transiently. We do not retain them once the result comes back, and we never use them to train models of our own. A copy is saved on your device when you save a piece to the Vault, and it is deleted when you delete the piece or the App. See our Privacy Policy for the full data flow.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email, and no password. The App creates an anonymous session with our backend so it can meter usage fairly, and that identity is not linked to you.
What does a subscription include, and what does it cost?
Lustre offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions and may offer one-time purchases, which unlock unlimited identifications and the rest of the premium features. Plans, prices, and any free-trial terms are always shown in the App before you buy, in your local currency, because pricing varies by region and changes over time. Billing is handled by Apple and charged to your Apple ID.
Managing Your Subscription
How do I cancel?
Cancel at any time through your Apple ID settings:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap your name at the top of the screen
- Tap Subscriptions
- Find and tap Lustre
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period to avoid the next charge. You keep access until the period you have already paid for ends. If a plan includes a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
How do I restore my purchases?
Reinstalled the App or switched devices? Open Profile and tap Restore purchases, or use the Restore option on the purchase screen. Any active entitlement tied to your Apple ID is re-applied automatically. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with.
Can I get a refund?
All purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds go through Apple. We cannot issue them directly. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com or through Apple Support.
Tips for Better Results
- Fill the frame: bring the piece close and centre it in the framing guide rather than shooting the whole hand or the whole tray
- Use soft, even light: diffused daylight beats a bare bulb, and direct flare across a stone hides more than it reveals
- Choose a plain background: a single piece on a matte, neutral surface reads far better than a pile of jewellery
- Use the torch for detail: it lifts a worn hallmark or a dark stone out of shadow
- Shoot the stone straight on: a face-up view of the centre stone gives the analysis the most to work with
- Try a second angle: if confidence comes back low, photograph the setting, the gallery, or the inside of the band instead
