How does PokeVal scan a card?
You photograph the card, or pick an existing image from your library. The photo travels over an encrypted connection to our backend, which passes it to Google Gemini. Seconds later you get the card, its set and number, an estimated value, supporting details, any cautions, and a confidence level.
Does PokeVal grade or authenticate my cards?
No. Card identifications, condition reads, and value estimates are AI-generated estimates for informational and entertainment purposes only. PokeVal is not a professional grading service, and a result is not a grade, a certification, or an authentication. Estimated values are not market guarantees, offers, or financial or investment advice; markets move and actual sale prices vary. A photograph cannot reliably verify authenticity, alterations, or surface condition. Never buy, sell, trade, or insure a card based solely on the app's output, and never present a result as a professional grade or authentication in a sale listing, an insurance claim, a tax declaration, or a commercial trading decision.
How accurate are the estimates?
Accuracy depends on framing, lighting, glare, and how legible the set symbol and card number are. Every result carries a confidence level of High, Medium, or Low, and anything the analysis is unsure about is flagged as a caution. Prices move constantly, so treat a result as a starting point and check live sales records before acting on it. See our Terms of Service for the full limitations.
Does PokeVal store my photos?
No. Photos are processed transiently. We do not retain them once the result comes back, and we never use them to train models of our own. A copy is saved on your device so your history and binder have something to show, and it is deleted when you delete the scan or the App. See our Privacy Policy for the full data flow.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email, and no password. The App creates an anonymous session so our backend can meter usage fairly, and that identity is not linked to you.
What does a subscription include, and what does it cost?
PokeVal offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions and may offer one-time purchases, which unlock unlimited scans and the rest of the premium features. Plans, prices, and any free-trial terms are always shown in the App before you buy, in your local currency, because pricing varies by region. Billing is handled by Apple and charged to your Apple ID.
Managing Your Subscription
How do I cancel?
Cancel at any time through your Apple ID settings:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap your name at the top of the screen
- Tap Subscriptions
- Find and tap PokeVal
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period to avoid the next charge. You keep access until the period you have already paid for ends. Free trials follow the same 24-hour rule.
How do I restore my purchases?
Reinstalled the App or switched devices? Open the purchase screen, from the upgrade prompt in Settings or when you reach the daily limit, and tap Restore. Any entitlement tied to your Apple ID is re-applied automatically, so long as you are signed in with the Apple ID you bought with.
Can I get a refund?
All purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds go through Apple and we cannot issue them directly. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Tips for Better Scans
- Shoot straight-on: square the card in the frame and fill the screen rather than shooting at an angle
- Kill the glare: even, indirect light beats a bulb reflecting off a holo, and the flash toggle is there for shadows
- Keep the corners in: the set symbol and card number carry most of the identification
- Take it out of the sleeve: reflections and scuffs on a toploader confuse the read
- Hold the zoom dial: press and drag it for fine control over small text
- Try again if confidence is Low: a second photo in better light often changes the answer
