Setup takes about three minutes. If something is off, the answer is very likely on this page.
Turning on the keyboard
The app guides you through this. Here it is written out.
- Install Whisper Glide from the App Store and open it once. Opening the app first is what makes the keyboard available to iOS.
- Open Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards and tap "Add New Keyboard". The setup button in the app takes you straight there.
- Choose Whisper Glide from the third party keyboard list.
- Tap Whisper Glide again in the keyboard list and turn on Allow Full Access. This enables haptics and lets the keyboard read your snippets, scratchpad, and settings from the app.
- Open any app and tap a text field. Press and hold the globe key, then pick Whisper Glide. iOS remembers your choice for that app.
- Hold the mic key and talk. The first time, iOS asks for microphone and speech recognition permission. Allow both, and you are done.
The usual questions
How do I enable the Whisper Glide keyboard?
Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards, then "Add New Keyboard" and choose Whisper Glide. Tap it once more in the list and turn on Allow Full Access.
If it does not appear in that list, open the Whisper Glide app once and try again. iOS only offers a keyboard extension after its host app has been launched.
What does Full Access actually do?
iOS blocks two things for keyboards until Full Access is on: haptic feedback, and the shared container the app and keyboard both use. Whisper Glide needs the second so the keyboard can read your snippets, scratchpad, custom words, and cleanup style, and hand off to the app for dictation.
It is not used to record your typing. Whisper Glide does not log keystrokes and does not transmit the contents of fields you type into. Details are in the privacy policy.
You can leave it off. The keyboard still types, without haptics and without your saved snippets and settings.
Why does it need microphone permission, and where do I grant it?
Dictation needs the microphone to hear you and speech recognition to turn what it hears into text. iOS asks for both the first time you dictate.
If you declined earlier, go to Settings, Whisper Glide, and switch on Microphone and Speech Recognition. You can also check Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone.
The microphone is active only in the main app while you are actively dictating. There is no background listening and no wake word.
How does dictation work in practice?
Tap into any text field, switch to Whisper Glide, then hold the mic key and speak. Words appear as you talk, and the keyboard stays on screen so you can edit as you go.
Release to finish. The text is cleaned up in your chosen style, filler and false starts are dropped, and the sentence is left at your cursor. Nothing is copied to the clipboard.
Short bursts or one long take both work. Punctuation like "comma" and "new line" is understood, and you can fix a word by tapping a suggestion on the strip.
The keyboard keeps reverting to the default one. How do I stop that?
iOS remembers the keyboard per app and falls back to the system one in a few known situations. Work through these in order:
- Reselect it once in that app. Hold the globe key and choose Whisper Glide. iOS keeps it for that app from then on.
- Check secure fields. iOS forces the system keyboard for password and other secure fields. No third party keyboard can override that.
- Confirm Full Access is still on. Some iOS updates reset it. Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards, Whisper Glide.
- Free up memory. iOS can unload a keyboard extension when memory is tight. Close a few heavy apps and try again.
- Reboot. If the keyboard was replaced during an app update, restarting the iPhone reliably reloads the extension.
- Re-add it. Remove Whisper Glide from the keyboard list, restart the iPhone, then add it again and re-enable Full Access.
If it still reverts, email us with your iPhone model, iOS version, and the app where it happens. That is usually enough for us to reproduce it.
Dictation is not picking up my voice.
- Check that Microphone and Speech Recognition are enabled in Settings, Whisper Glide.
- Make sure nothing else is holding the microphone, such as an active call or a recording app.
- If a Bluetooth headset is connected, try the iPhone microphone instead. Some headsets negotiate a low quality audio route.
- Confirm the mic is not covered by a case, and that the ring or silent switch is not muting feedback you expect.
- Check that your dictation language has on-device speech support in Settings, General, Keyboard, Dictation.
My snippets and scratchpad are missing in the keyboard.
That is almost always Full Access being off. The keyboard reads them from a shared container that iOS blocks until Full Access is granted. Turn it on in Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards, Whisper Glide.
Autocorrect changed something I did not want changed.
It should not have. Whisper Glide suggests corrections on the strip and applies them only when you tap. If something changed on its own, tell us what you typed and what appeared, because that is a bug worth fixing. You can also add names and unusual spellings to your custom words in the app.
How do I delete my data?
Everything Whisper Glide saves lives on your iPhone. Delete individual scratchpad entries, snippets, custom words, and recent dictations inside the app, or delete the app to remove the whole container at once. There is no account to close.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Whisper Glide. Refunds go through Apple as well. We can help you understand a charge, but we cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves.
